Is there a cinema in Newbury? The new Vue cinema is now open in Newbury accessed from either the Market Place or the Kennet Centre. The Corn Exchange has films on throughout the year at their Screen One Cinema. The Tourist Information Centre(TIC) keeps a copy of their programme. Other cinemas close by are Vue Cinemas at Festival Place, Basingstoke, Odeon Cinemas at the Leisure Park, Basingstoke and Vue Cinemas at the Oracle, Reading. I'm meeting friends/family in Newbury can you suggest a place to meet? A good place to meet would be at the Wharf, Newbury, next to the TIC, Museum and Library. It is sign posted from whichever road you enter Newbury, the A4 or the A339. There is adequate car parking and you are in easy reach of the canal, pubs and restaurants and shops. Where's a good place for a picnic? Snelsmore Common is ideal as it has parking, toilets, playing fields and picnic tables. The Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham is also very good; with parking, toilets, playing fields, playground, lake and picnic tables. There are many places around the Market Place in Newbury; from pub food, Italian, French and Chinese restaurants, a cafe in the Wharf and also in the Arcade. Are there any coach trips from Newbury? Barnes Travel organise coach trips from Newbury which go to various places. North Hampshire Travel also has a limited programme of day trips. Can I buy tickets for...? The Tourist Information Centre sells tickets for National Express coaches, the Watermill Theatre, the Royal County of Berkshire Show and Battle Proms at Highclere Castle. Where do the Canal trips leave from? Canal trips leave from Newbury Wharf , just alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust shop. The Rose of Hungerford leaves from Canal Wharf, just off Bridge Street in Hungerford town centre. The horse-drawn barge 'Kennet Valley' leaves from Kintbury, just by the station. Is there a pub with a play area in Newbury? The Narrowboat in Newbury has an outside play area for children. There are other pubs which are slightly out of Newbury with outside play areas, the Sun in the Wood in Ashmore Green, the Five Bells in Wickham and the Craven Arms in Enborne. Information on family pubs in the area is also available on our website here I've got an hour to spend in Newbury, what is there to do? West Berkshire Museum is well worth a visit - and it's free! We have a self-guided walking tour of the Wharf area, available at the TIC, which takes about 20 minutes and covers places of interest around the Wharf and Canal. There are also 3 parks around the town centre; Victoria Park with children's play area, tennis, pitch and put and an outdoor cafe; Goldwell Park with children's play area and Northcroft Park. Every Thursday and Saturday is market day in Newbury and on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month there is a Farmer's Market. Newbury also boasts a wide range of shops in the Kennet Centre and in Northbrook Street In the summer months there are canal boat trips departing from the Stone Building at the Wharf. Can I get a National express coach to...? You can get National Express coaches from Newbury. Some journeys are direct and others involve changing at Birmingham, Heathrow or London Victoria. However, a wider range of destinations are available departing from Calcot. Newbury TIC sells National Express tickets. Where is the nearest internet cafe? / Fax Machine/ Photocopier? Newbury Library, also on the Wharf, allows users internet access. Access is free for a maximum of 2 hours on any one day. Alternatively, for a charge, there is internet access at ICN Computers on Wharf Street At Newbury TIC we can send faxes and do black and white photocopying.
