The Kennet & Avon Canal is 200 years old!
The canal came to Newbury in 1723 when the River Kennet was made navigable. This waterway which linked Newbury to Reading is now part of the Kennet and Avon Canal which today flows as far as Bristol to the west. In 2010 the Canal local people will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completion of this glorious waterway.
